The Sorroundings

One of the first documents held mentions “Staphylo” and “Turris Ducis”, then Torre di Mosto, is the Placito of Staffolo of 998 AD, which established the border between the Lombard Kingdom and the Duchy of Venice, where the last remains of the ancient ducal seat of Cittanova are found.
The Staphilo was the border, which was an area at the centre of the paths around the lagoon ever since the Roman days (refer to the Via Annia paths and at a later stage Via Antiga), whereas Turris Ducis probably formed part of the line of castles, camps and towers, guarding and defending the borders and trade.
Today, the district of Staffolo belongs to the Municipality of Torre di Mosto, which is approximately 3 km away.
Other districts that form part of the Municipality are: Agenzia di Lazara –Anarè – Bocca Fossa – Ponte Capitello – Rotta – S.Anna – S.Elena – Senzielli – Cavanelle – Tezze.
